How do you inspire people to stand up for a place they will never visit?
After decades of protection, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was opened to oil and gas development. The Wilderness Society set out to build empathy for one of Earth's last true wildernesses — a traveling immersive installation that surrounded visitors in the light, sound, and life of the refuge across a full year, and the voices of the Gwich'in people who have called it home for thousands of years. It played to sold-out crowds in New York, Washington D.C., and San Francisco.
Working with Future Colossal, Skylab 5 produced the seven-screen, seven-minute film at the heart of the experience — blending original animation with footage shot across the refuge into a panoramic loop that wrapped the room and carried visitors through the changing seasons.
